The Whale’s Tale mini golf course
“tells a story:” Once upon a time a
friendly whale decided to vacation on Shelter Island. If you follow the 18 holes of the mini golf
course you will be taking the same fun journey that led this friendly whale to
our beautiful island.
The
theme is a great idea, and the course is full of “friends” the Whale meets
along the way, however, the “story” is not really told as you play the 18
holes. The friends along the course
include a mermaid, a dolphin, and a penguin! Some positive points about the
course include the music playing throughout, and the carpets are in fair
shape. The course is well shaded, which
was much appreciated on the hot, sunny day we played.
We did
notice a couple things about the course that could use improvement. The landscape is very sandy and could use
some more grass. Hole #14 has a bad
design where it’s practically impossible to putt the
ball into the hole that directs your ball down a chute. And even if you manage to get the ball into
the chute it’s no guarantee the ball will go into the cup. The course does use
rubber mats and metal cups, which are not ideal.
Overall this is an enjoyable
course to play. If you’re vacationing on
Shelter Island or near Greenport we would recommend checking out this
course. It’s family friendly, and the
kids on the course while we were there were having a great time.
