On 5/12/04, my sister and I played a round of mini-golf at the brilliant Pirates’ Cove Adventure Golf in South Yarmouth, MA.  As its name suggests, this is a pirate-themed miniature golf course, which is open from 9 AM to 11 PM.

Pirates’ Cove has an amusement park flavour, and includes plaques with information on the various pirates, caves where talking pirates can be found hiding with their bounty, and where the skeletons of the unfortunate can be seen; as well as a complete ship, a shipwreck, a large waterfall, and several pirates in the water.  A particularly funny touch is a shark bursting through a wall overlooking the parking lot - with a bag of golf clubs in his mouth!

There are actually two courses here – The Captain’s Course and Blackbeard’s Challenge.  Of these two, we only got to try Blackbeard’s Challenge, because the Captain’s Course was in the midst of being re-carpeted.  Blackbeard’s Challenge speaks well for the rest of Pirates’ Cove, however.

The holes are kept in good condition, and are very creatively designed. There is a good selection of obstacles in the holes, which included varying levels of difficulty.  (Hole 17, which includes a staircase leading to the top of a long corkscrew ramp, even has a handicapped accessible alternate hole, so that handicapped players need not worry about the stairs.)

For beginners such as we, this course was perfect.  Cheerful music played at a pleasant volume added to the experience.  Pirates’ Cove also has a fun gift shop and arcade.  The gift shop even sold copies of the flag of one of our more illustrious forbears, Henry Every (aka Avery). Small world...

Altogether, this miniature golf park is worth the drive and the entrance fee, and we shall definitely be back to test the Captain’s Course sometime in the next few weeks!

Played this late last fall & did not get to a review until now. Not a terribly difficult course but very interesting with the pirate fact signs at the beginning of each hole. Largest waterfall I have ever seen - some of the course was wet. Only course on the cape that took advantage of last year's late season warm weather. Good staff - was allowed to play both courses for one price. Par should be set just slightly higher because of those darn metal cups.

Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf is the place to be!! When your putting off a pirate ship on just the 2nd hole, you know you are in for a blast! The are actually 2 different courses: The
Blackbeard Course and the Capitan Course, both of which the par is 40. The course was very hard, but not impossible, for I scored a 63, and a 52, with a hole in one on the
last hole! Creativity is also key. Some holes, you could actually use water hazards to your advantage! And, if you get a hole in one on the last hole, you get a chip to come back an
play another FREE round! Next time I can, I will totally take the 1-hour drive (which was all worth it) to play another round of mini-golf at Pirate's Cove!

Pirate's Cove is a chain of mini-golf facilities. We've been to the Hyannis course, as well as the ones in Wells and Bar Harbor, Maine. Each has two separate 18 hole courses. All are very well maintained and fun to play.  Pricing can be a bit much for a family, and that would be the only real negative thing I have to say about our experience.
