Having played a Pirate’s Cove before (in Bar Harbor, ME) we figured we’d be getting the same exact thing, only in a different setting.  What we got here was a slightly different course that still had most of the same features of the one we already played.  Although still an excellent course, it didn’t quite compare to it’s namesake in a different part of Maine.

The course was very well kept, except for a few areas in the water where there was an abundance of weeds.  The holes themselves were a good mix of difficult and easy, giving this course about an average rating on that scale.  The Challenge Course did have a very nifty curled hole that twisted upon itself as it went straight down the side of the hill.  We found great amusement in the directions being in English and in French on this course and the ball return was quite interesting as you could sit by a “wishing well” and watch as the balls dropped in there after being eaten on the 18th hole.  The staff was quite courteous and friendly and the course offers a give-a-way drawing if you fill out the back portion of the scorecard.

We’ll just make a few quick comparisons here to the other Pirate’s Cove we’ve played.  The one in Old Orchard Beach lacks the nifty information signs on every hole telling you about the life of a particular pirate and also lacks the incredibly large pirate ship.  However, if you take this course on its own, its definitely a must play, although it is kind of tough to get to. (Old Orchard Beach is a maze of streets filled with summer tourists.)  At the price of $5 a course, playing both halves of this complex is also a necessity as you can’t really find a better bargain than that when it comes to quality miniature golf courses.
