Mitchell’s Golf Complex consists of a 9-hole public golf course, a driving range and 3 miniature golf courses in the rolling hill north of Baltimore, MD. The Regular Mini is for kids and the family with familiar little obstacles. The Championship has longer holes and four holes that require short chips from carpets onto caged greens. The real star at Mitchell’s is the Monster of the Pines which we played in the early spring, 2016. Long is the word that best describes the par 70 Monster. The 18 holes are laid out on the rolling terrain - up, down, and side hill lined with paving blocks. Several of the steeper slopes have a series of switchbacks requiring three good putts to reach the upper green. The monster of the Monster is #10, a long sloping upward hole that I estimate at about 225 ft. For the most part, the greens putt true without gimmicky funnels or humps at the hole (steel cups). The exception was #17, an inclined plane where my partner and I wasted a collective 7 putts trying to read the slope. The course seems to have been locally designed by golfers, using the natural slope rather than building adventure-type volcanoes.
