For those not familiar with the Monster Golf franchise, they are a series of Halloween/Scary Monster themed indoor courses.  Overall, the course is very appealing to the eye, with glow-in-the-dark attributes everywhere and a lot of fun sculptures and paintings on the walls.  Since this course is in the same town as the major airport in Connecticut, this course has a “nightmare airport” type theme, which is well done and quite fun.  This course was more difficult than other Monster Golfs we’ve played.  There are a series of very long holes that require a good deal of planning and precision to score a low score.  However, it’s not so difficult that it can’t be fun as there are easier holes sprinkled in and enough going on so that you are pleasantly distracted from your score.  Like other Monster Golfs, this course has great tunes playing thanks to the house radio station.

The biggest drawback to the course is the size.  Due to space restraints, the holes are all back to back and there is very little room to stand off the actual hole when others are putting, or while waiting for the next hole.  On a busy night this can be frustrating, especially since there is a high volume of children on this course due to its type and the connecting arcade.  If you are looking to enjoy the course without many distractions, head down there on weeknight when it’s not raining.  The course is a pleasant addition to the Greater Hartford area and provides some minigolf fun for those looking for off-season fun or to keep busy on a crummy weather day.

2011 Update

Since the last time we played this course they underwent a complete renovation of the course.  While the nightmare airport theme still permeates (the paintings on the walls are the same as version 1.0) all the props on the course are completely new (with a few minor exceptions).  Many of the new props are much more terrifying than the old ones (especially the large monster in the back corner)!  The layout of the holes didn’t change and although we do our ratings updates without looking at our old ones, we ended up at the exact same difficulty.  As with our previous review, we continue to endorse this as a great miniature golf addition to the area and a great way to spend a rainy day (which it was when we went).
