For those not familiar with the Monster Golf franchise, they are a series of Halloween/Scary Monster themed indoor courses and this is the 4th that we have played. We found many similarities between this course and the others ones. The primary one being that the holes are very similar and almost all are long and involve a series of bank shots that end up feeling like the same shot over and over again. The holes also border each other but this one did seem to have a lot of “platforms” where you could stand off the hole without being in the way of another person’s shot. On this course the lack of demarcation between the end of one hole and the beginning of the next came into play several times. Often our balls rolled into the next hole and the group of children behind us at one point kept running into us because there wasn’t a clear break between the holes. While we understand this helps make the course handicap accessible other courses have found ways to may sure there is a clear break between the holes. Some moveable bricks would probably be the best, and easiest, solution to the problem. There were very few ace opportunities on this course and most of the holes were likely to be a three. Several of the obstacles didn’t really help and in a couple of cases putting through the obstacles was actually worse than going around them.
The atmosphere is where this
course (like other Monster Golfs) excels.
The house music station was always playing something fun and the
creatures and paintings around the course are great. This particular venue also featured some
large dragons, apes and other animals but unlike other courses we’ve seen these
were not animatronic (or perhaps were not turned on when we were there). This course also featured a Mischief
Golf-like spinner on hole #7 which had you play the
hole in a different manner depending on where the spinner landed. It was a great little additional and would
have been even more fun if there were a couple of other spinners scattered
throughout the course. Overall the cost
of the course was about average for a miniature golf and on a chilly winter’s
day it wasn’t a bad place to spend an hour.
