There were two courses at this location but by the time we played the second was in the process of being removed, so we only played the Viking course. Overall the course is very good and given its location in the Broadway at the Beach area it is a definitely play if you are visiting the other attractions. However, we’re not sure we’d make a specific trip over there given the variety of other courses available in Myrtle Beach as it wasn’t the most exciting course but it was in good condition.  The course has well-defined tee areas and the greens were all in excellent condition.  The holes tend to be long but not overly challenging as we were at or significantly under par for all of our rounds. There’s a few ace opportunities scatter around (we hit 5 of 18 holes over our combined 4 rounds) and post present a fairly easy two if you don’t over/under hit your tee shot.  The cups, like many we’ve seen in the Myrtle Beach courses, are deep and plastic and are designed with drainage in mind as most of them have a bottom that runs into a PVC pipe allowing water to run off into the drainage areas.

The theming was in place for a portion of the course with various signs telling the store, a hole on a Viking ship, a catapult and the general nautical theme with the pier-like posts.  However, we felt it could have been incorporated a little bit more with additional obstacles or props scattered around the course.  The price is about average for the bigger courses in Myrtle Beach these days and the play all day option is probably the best if you want to get in several rounds of play.  It wasn’t crowded when we were there given it was off-season but we could see how the course would have a lot of people during peak times and there was plenty of room between the holes to wait if that happened.  It didn’t seem like there was music on the course proper but you got overflow from the attractions around it.

As we mentioned above we wouldn’t make a specific trip for this course but if you are in the area or are just trying to hit as many courses as you can, the trip will be worth it.  They are also a part of a larger minigolf conglomerate in Myrtle Beach so there are packages you can purchase to play all of them, which could be worth it given your time availability.

This is our first review for the Putting Penguin.
In Myrtle Beach, there are at least 40 mini-golf courses, so on a one week vacation, we had to be selective. This one, while not our favorite, is well worth your time.
