This course opened fresh in 2022, and as such the carpets are fresh, and played a bit slower than we’re used to. But that seriously might have been the only true negative (beyond my disdain for gimmicky 18th holes, which some people love). The course is unique in its layout, and has some really interesting obstacles and features (think camel backstop, a neat lookout tower hole with pressurized ball suction, and a hay cart with sheep). The course is built to play off of the main attraction at the site, which is the Desert of Maine itself. They do a great job incorporating the history and the unique nature of the site. It’s sparkling and it’s newness, and the carpets haven’t been worn in yet, so the ball travels a bit slower than most courses. But once you’re used to it on a second play, it’s actually a very fun layout.
There is a good mix of traditional undulation as an obstacle, and stone and fabricated obstacles as well. There is no listed par on the scorecard, which, as a family friendly attraction, makes sense. A 2 is absolutely achievable on every hole, and there are ace opportunities with a little bit of practice. The final hole is a skeeball style finish, for ball collection, and a ball in the center of the bullseye nets a free game (or an ice cream at the on-site stand). $10 for adults; $9 for 12-under Discounts - 50% off for same-day replay - 10% off for seniors (65+) - 10% off for active duty military - 25% off for groups of 12 or more
